Bitter taste left after Royal Oasis payouts

Thursday, 31 July 2008 21:40

Well Muddasick -- all the noise about everybody who put in a claim will be compensated was nothing more than a promise to a fool to the majority of middle management staff at the hotels. Yesterday's payout was basically for the "union" category and the casino supervisors, pit bosses, etc. The selected few of middle management who were able to find favour with top management of the resort were able to secure letters confirming that they were considered a part of management and were able to receive the balance due to them.

Unfortunately, out of the finance department of approximately 20 people, all in the same category, only three members were eligible; why? Because they were able to locate name tags (about 10 years old) that showed their positions as supervisors. The Labour Department has treated us like criminals; we have to prove our positions because top management of the resort saw fit to disclose everybody as union category to suit the purpose. In fact, they have decided administrative assistants are nothing more than clerks; no matter what your salary may be. One of the ladies told us that if we can get letters confirming that we were considered a part of management, there will be no problem in paying us what is due. Notwithstanding, we all have a copy of our management pension plan which does not qualify us because the infamous Mr. Michael Reckley informed the Labour Department that you did not have to be a part of management to join. HOGWASH, Mr. Reckley! No union category staff was ever allowed to join the management plan.

Quite frankly, this has left a bitter taste in many mouths on Grand Bahama, and we would like for the M.P.'s -- who the people of Grand Bahama voted in -- to address this issue.
