NASSAU, Bahamas -- The Bahamas Agricultural Forum for Youth (BAFY) was formed as a national chapter of CAFY (Caribbean Agricultural Forum for Youth). BAFY seeks to enhance Bahamian agriculture by providing a medium for youth and budding agriculturalist, through effective plans and programmes, to promote economic advancement. It is also designated to facilitate the development of leadership and negotiating skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other stakeholders to achieve desired goals.
Other goals of BAFY include: the development of strategies to promote the viability of agriculture and increase youth involvement in the sector; a focus on food security; improve entrepreneurial skills; promote sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation; and the ultimate goal of putting a halt to the aging farmer syndrome.
BAFY partners with agricultural youth programmes throughout the country, especially at the high school level. There is a noticeable disconnect between youth in the sector at the high school level and the tertiary level. BAFY hopes to bridge this gap by fostering dialogue between young agricultural professionals and aspiring agriculturalists to assess the reason/s for this gap and the means by which to close and/or bridge this gap.
BAFY is hosting its Official Launch Ceremony & General Interest Meeting as follows:
Date: Thursday April 26th, 2012. Time: 3:30pm Registration (Free) Venue: Choices Dining Hall & Meeting Room CHMI –The College of The Bahamas, Thompson Blvd., Oakesfield
