There are so many great pets at the shelter - and they need your help!  There are a couple of fun and painless ways to help coming up.  Don't miss A Night of Love this Saturday night at the Foster B. Pestaina auditorium.

These three little ones were dropped off at the shelter Sunday night - the police were passing and noticed a car in our drive - stopped to investigate and found a man placing a box with the puppies next to our gate. Luckily the police officer called us so they didn't have to sit there (or possibly escape) all night. The bar opens at 7 p.m. and the concert by the Apple Elliott Band starts promptly at 8 p.m.  Come thirsty!  The Humane Society of Grand Bahama is manning the bar and all bar proceeds help our animals.  Raffle tickets with some great prizes will be sold too.

Our 27th annual Dog Show is the following Saturday, March 3rd, on the shelter grounds on Coral Road.  Click HERE to view the Schedule of Events for the start times of all groups.  Dogs can be entered starting now at the shelter, or on the day.

Remember your dog doesn't have to have a "pedigree" to enter!  We at the HSGB value all dogs equally and there is a group for every dog, whether purebred, potcake, mixed breed, multi breed, senior, or puppy!

The Dog and Owner Look-a-Like group is always fun; whether you and your dog resemble each other or you simply dress alike.

Rascal says 'I'm a really good girl! Please give me a chance!'Great food will be available from caterer Leno Carter; cotton candy, popcorn and other tasty snacks from Georgette and the Girls; and the HSGB bake sale, with delectable baked goods from some wonderful bakers.

There will be a cash bar and a White Elephant (flea market) sale for the grownups; and hoopla, face painting by Olivia, and pony rides by Trikk Pony Adventures and Ol Freetown Farm for the kids.

Our guest judge this year will be Jennifer Schwartz of Homeward Bound Animal Welfare Group of Mishawaka, Indiana.  Jen's group have taken in several dozen of our adult dogs and older puppies in the last two years and we're delighted she is finally visiting our beautiful island.

Whether you have a dog to show off or not, there is something for everyone to enjoy at the dog show!

The HSGB is grateful to our sponsors: Purina, Barefoot Marketing, and Bahama Islands Info.  Thanks also to Bellevue Business Depot for donating the printing of our posters, Pinetree Stables for the ribbons, the individual trophy sponsors, and hay bales and boards for the "show ring".

Sallie is a gorgeous and unusual calico/tabby mix, about 15 weeks old.Happy Tails update:  last week, an older German Shepherd Dog found her way to GSD Rescue in central Florida, and two more puppies - Mickey and Frankie - are now safe and sound with Homeward Bound in Indiana.

More puppies and dogs are leaving this week and next; thanks to our friend Kit DeRoche and the amazing rescue website she created for us www.potcakerescue.com, we have found some great new rescues willing to help our animals.

We've had several great local adoptions as well.  Lipton has been adopted and his brother Tea will be joining the same family soon.  Two kittens went home this past week, and several other local adoptions are pending.

Donations still welcome and needed for our lifesaving Operation Puppylift!
