FREEPORT, Grand Bahama -- On Monday 10th December 2012 around 12:30pm, Joetiko Michael Newbold, age 20 years, of #3 Sunset Subdivision was arraigned before Magistrate Debbie Ferguson in Magistrate Court #1 on the following charges:
1. Armed Robbery 2. Conspiracy to commit armed robbery 3. Possession of a firearm whilst committing an indictable offence 4. Causing Grievous Harm
The arraignment stemmed from the armed robbery incident of Goldilocks Jewelry Store, Circle Mall, that occurred on the 17th October, 2012.
He was not required to enter a plea and was represented by Attorney Carlson H. Shurland. A preliminary inquiry into these matters will commence on the 19th December, 2012, at 11:30am. Bail was denied and the suspect was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison. |

MARSH HARBOUR, Abaco -- On Monday, 10th December, 2012, around 5:30am, Police at the Marsh Habour Police Station received information of a house fire in the Pigeon Pea area.
The fire department and police responded and discovered a single wooden structure engulfed in flames.
The fire was eventually contained and the entire building which is a (6) six room structure was destroyed. The home was occupied by a family, who was not at home at the time of the fire. The building is not covered by insurance.
Police are investigating this matter. |

MARSH HARBOUR, Abaco -- On Saturday, 8th December 2012, around 3:35am, police at the Marsh Harbour Police Station received information of an armed robbery.
Officers responded and it was reported that a male while returning from the Royal Bank of Canada in the area of the Mudd, was approached by two males, one was armed with a pump action shot gun and the other with a small hand gun, who threatened him and demanded cash. He was robbed of $350.00 in cash.
On Saturday, 8th December 2012, around 4:35am Officers at the Marsh Harbour Police Station received information of an armed robbery.
Officers responded and it was reported that around 4:30am, a male while in the area of the Mudd was approached by three males, one was armed with a pump action shot gun who threatened him and demanded his wallet that contained $20.00 in cash and an assortment of bank cards, his silver and black Motorola cell phone valued at $120.00 and his silver Rolex watch valued at $3,000.00.
The culprits reportedly fled in an unknown direction.
Police are investigating all matters. |

MARSH HARBOUR, Abaco -- On Wednesday 5th December 2012, sometime around 7:15pm, Officers at the Marsh Harbour Police Station received information that there was an attempted armed robbery at an establishment on Don Mackay Boulevard.
Officers responded and it was reported by a female employee of that establishment that shortly after 7:00pm, a male described as being 5’9” tall, dark complexion and slim built, clad in a white long sleeve tee shirt, colorful dress (female clothing), and wearing a red wig had entered that establishment brandishing what is described as a small black hand gun, who then demanded cash.
He was unsuccessful in his attempt as the female employee fled to the rear of that establishement.
Police are investigating this matter.
TRAFFIC FATALITY - ARRAIGNMENT -ABACO
On Saturday 17th November 2012, a traffic fatality occurred on the S.C Bootle Highway involving two vehicles, which resulted in (3) deaths.

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama -- On Monday 3rd December 2012 around 10:00am, three (3) suspects who were a part of a housebreaking ring and who were responsible for a number of Housebreaking and Stealing incidents, throughout the Freeport- Lucaya area, were taken before the Magistrate Courts and arraigned on the following charges;
Court #3 Magistrate Andrew Forbes - Alfred Laing age 26 years, Cordell Fabian Tarless age 25 years and De’Andre Rahming age 21 years all residents of Freeport,were all arraigned on (6) counts of Housebreaking, (5) counts of Stealing from a Dwelling House and (1) count of Attempted Housebreaking.
They all pleaded not guilty to these matters which were adjourned to the 19th February 2013 for trial.
Court #1 Magistrate Debbie Ferguson - Alfred Laing age 26 years, Cordell Fabian Tarless age 25 years and De’Andre Rahming age 21 years were all arraigned on (6) six counts of Housebreaking and (6) counts of Stealing from a Dwelling House.
They all pleaded not guilty and the matters were adjourned to the 20th February 2013 for trial.
Court #2 Magistrate Helen Jones - Cordell Fabian Tarless age 23 years was arraigned on (7) counts of Housebreaking and (1) count of Stealing from a Dwelling House. He pleaded not guilty.

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama -- On Thursday 28th November 2012 around 11:50pm, Police received information that a church building on Peach Tree Street was on fire. Officers from the Fire Branch responded and reported that upon arrival at that location, met the said building engulfed in flame, the officers were able to extinguish the fire which was confined to an office area, however extensive smoke damage was done throughout the building. The estimated damages to the building are $750.000.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS - ABACO
On Thursday 28th November 2012 around 6:25pm, Immigration authorities along with officers of the Abaco District took into custody twelve (12) illegal immigrants. Reports are that they were arrested while being gainfully employed in Hope Town, Abaco. One (1) Bahamian male was also arrested. Investigations will continue by Immigration authorities.
POLICE AWARDS
On Monday 26th November 2012, thirty one recruits graduated from the Police Training College in Grand Bahama. Woman Police Constable 3704 Thomas was awarded both the Baton of Honour and the Commandants Wards. It was in-correctly reported in the press that WPC 3704 Thomas was the first female to have received these awards. We want the records to reflect that WPC 3444 Leadon of “C” Squad 2009 was the first female to have received both awards in Grand Bahama on January 2010. Congratulations are extended to both officers on their achievements. |

MARSH HARBOUR, Abaco -- On Sunday, 25th November, 2012, around 12:30am, police while on patrol discovered a two-door green Honda Accord overturned on Forrest Drive, Abaco, with three passengers on the outside of the vehicle and one male passenger who was found trapped under the vehicle.
The apparent accident scene was visited by Police and EMS personnel. The passenger found under the vehicle was also the driver of the vehicle, and was pronounced dead by a doctor at the Marsh Harbour Clinic. The three other passengers who were two males and one female were all rendered medical assistance and transported to the Marsh Harbour Clinic for further medical treatment and discharged.
Police are actively investigating this matter.
As this is the second such traffic fatality reported in Abaco within a week, Police are strongly urging the general public, to drive with due caution and care, and to drive to stay alive. |
