AVATAR -- A traditional tagline was not used in the marketing of this film, because in every way this film is beyond the traditional. In the year 2154 the Avatar Program has been created to in order to help humans communicate with sapient species of alien planets by creating human/alien hybrids that are control by humans remotely. A paraplegic war veteran is brought to the another planet as part of the program to pilot his dead twin brother's hybrid. He encounters a humanoid race with their own language and culture, but is unable to find a way to persuade them to leave the area they call home to let the people of Earth mine the territory. With tension rising among the people of Earth and the indigenous inhabitants of Pandora, he becomes torn between following orders and protecting the world that is becoming his home. Corporal Jake Sully is a physically challenged Marine who has been given the opportunity to travel to a different planet due to his similar genetic makeup with his deceased phD brother and soon finds that he is losing himself to the natural beauty of the alien world he has become enamored with. Doctor Grace Augustine is the head of the Avatar Program and a botanist who wishes to study the planet and those living on it as a way to peacefully interact with the dominant species and gain a wealth of information which could lead to mutually beneficial relationship. Neytiri is a princess of the Omaticaya tribe of the Na'vi race who would like nothing more than for the 'sky people' to return to their planet, but the more she gets to know Jake the stronger he feelings become for him. Colonel Miles Quaritch is the head of security for the Corporation trying to mine the unobtanium on the planet who employs Jake with the mission of finding weaknesses in the Omaticaya tribe's home tree and promises to get the corporation to bankroll the operation that will give him a new spine allowing him to walk again, if the information is useful. Words can not begin to express how utterly sensational the experience of viewing this film is. |

This movie didn't have a tagline, but the title says it all. The movie is loosely based on the novel The Frog Princess by E. D. Baker which is of course inspired by the fairy tale The Frog Prince by the Brothers Grimm. This animated musical comedy is set in the French Quarter of New Orleans during the Jazz Age era. A young woman with big dreams and the work ethic to see them through comes across a cursed prince who has mistaken her for a princess that will break his spell. When they kiss she becomes cursed as well and must travel together through the Bayou to find the only person who may know of a way to lift the curse. Tiana an aspiring chef who is saving the money she earns from working as a waitress at two jobs so that she can open up the restaurant that her dead father had always dreamed of having, but a chance meeting with a talking frog may halt those dreams. Prince Naveen is an immature young man of royalty who has been cut off from his wealth by his parents unless he is able to marry a young woman of means and show that he is responsible, but his dealing with Dr. Facilier aka The Shadow Man has left him in an odd state. Louis is a trumpet playing alligator who joins Tiana and Naveen as a protector in hopes that he can be turned into a human by the priestess of the Bayou Mama Odie and get to play in a real Jazz Band. Ray is a Cajun firefly who guides to gang to the old boat nestled atop a giant mangrove tree where the priestess lives and also happens to be in love with an evening star who he thinks is a firefly called Evangeline.

Old Dogs One of the taglines for this movie: Life Is Not Child-Proof. An unlucky-in-love divorcee and a fun-loving bachelor are best friends and business partners. They have their lives turned upside down when a series of events leaves them charged with the care of six year old twins while on the verge of the biggest business deal of their career. As the two best friends stumble through one debacle after another in their efforts to care for the twins they may change their perspective on whats important in life. Charlie is an aging player whose two best friends are his dog lucky and his business partner Dan with not much room on his plate for anything other than business or pleasure. Dan is well grounded friend who doesn't take chances especially with his heart, but he soon learns that one of his impulsive acts has come back to haunt him in a big way and at a critical time. Zach And Emily are Dan's twin children that he is meeting for the first time who both are expecting things from him that he may not be prepared to give them. Ralph White is the company executive who is being groomed by Charlie and Dan to be their liaison with the Japanese corporation they are hoping to do business with, but he may not be all they expect him to be. I hate it when a movie gives away all of its funniest jokes in the commercials because it leaves you with nothing when you watch the actual movie. I'm guessing the only reason John Travolta took this film is because his wife Kelly Preston and his daughter Ella Bleu Travolta were also in it. I'm not sure why Robin Williams was in apart from the reason all the other well known stars were in it... The Paycheck. |

Planet 51 One of the taglines for this movie: Right Stuff. Wrong Planet. This gives you the running gag of the film that centers around an astronaut landing on a planet he thought was uninhabited, only to find it inhabited with intelligent life. The little green people are happily living in a white picket fence world reminiscent of a cheerfully innocent 1950s America. The only fear the creatures have on their planet is alien invaders and our astronaut landing in the middle of their suburbs has brought that fear to life. Captain Charles 'Chuck' T. Baker is a astronaut from the United States of America who has discovered that the planet he was led to believe was just rocks by his robot 'rover' does in fact have a thriving civilization and he may be trapped there if he can get his lander back to its orbitor. Lem is a young person of the planet who has just won a job as a lecturer at the astronomical observatory explaining that the universe is hundreds of miles wide, but all of that is put in jeopardy when he tries to help Chuck. General Grawl is the head of the military who have commandeered Chuck's alien spacecraft and brought it to Base 9 where he plans on storing it for future study. Professor Kipple is the leading scientist on aliens who believes they can take over the minds of the people of Planet 51 and want to remove Churcks brain to unlock the secrets of his alien powers. |
