BAIC embarks on industrial zoning project in Hatchet Bay, Eleuthera

(BIS photo/Letisha Henderson) ELEUTHERA, Bahamas -- In an effort to stimulate the economy of Hatchet Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas Agricultural and Industrial Corporation (BAIC) has embarked on a zoning project to create business and employment opportunities.

Bahamian entrepreneurs have expressed interest in utilising property on the former Hatchet Bay farm in pursuit of the Government’s food security policy.

As a result, BAIC retained the services of surveyor Hubert Williams who has created zones for farming, agricultural production, commerce and tourism.  

BAIC’s Property Management Department has already commenced pre-screening of applicants.

“The response has been very encouraging,” said assistant general manager Judith Thompson. “We received extremely positive feedback.

“We want to work closely with local government, the Administrator’s Office and the Hatchet Bay Festival Committee to ensure the overall success of this important project.

The zoning project was discussed during a recent (May 27) town meeting in Hatchet Bay.
