|MUDDASICK! Killer fishing vessel outrage|

I write in reference to information I have just received about a new “killer” fishing vessel arriving in Freeport to operate in this area harvesting tuna.
As I understand it, this boat will be using a very long net to capture tuna and haul aboard the mother ship. I am outraged to learn this for a number of reasons.
One, the tuna stocks in this area are poor at best. With this net system, a few good hauls and the tuna will only be a memory. Even more frightening is the amount of “other” fish and mammals that get caught in the nets and are killed. Sharks, turtles, dolphins etc.
There have been documentaries on TV recently about this same type of net fishing. Most of it is in the Pacific Ocean and much more deadly. It really saddens you when you see all the unwanted, already dead fish and mammals thrown back in the ocean with absolutely no regard for their existence.
I am outraged that my Government would not only consider this venture but approve it.
Do we have no memory of the Korean mother ship and support vessels scandal?
What the hell is wrong with this country? Do we have absolutely no environmental common sense?
A few years ago there was a big fuss over the long line fishing system and it was outlawed. But long netting is okay!
I encourage everyone with a conscience to stand up and demand that is type of fishing cannot be allowed.
