Appreciating those volunteer gestures that make Grand Bahama better
Monday, 16 July 2012 06:30

Reference your article relative to Sir Jack being a beneficiary to the Lucayan Cavern and Beach bridge in 1984.

With this gesture he sowed the seeds for more contributors, unnoticed volunteers (who always do the heavy lifting and make society better) tourism interest, Bahamian ticket collectors (I hope this does not get out of hand), and in general something showing the more beautiful aspects of this island.

Our company, just down the road a bit, provided the use of a duplex for the girls and boys from England who initially built the grounds at the caverns, to have baths.  My uncle who was visiting from Georgia, USA, went to town and bought about 50 Danish style pastries, coffee and orange juice for a morning treat from the hard difficulties these young people went thru to improve OUR ISLAND.  I remember they  had mosquito bites all over their faces and arms.

I appreciate all who have endeavored to make things better - I have seen it all in my 58 years here.
