HSGB's summer camp wound to a close last Friday with a fun filled morning at the Junkanoo Beach Club.  Highlights of the day included a sand castle building competition and of course, fun in the water!  (Congrats to Elliot Francolla, cat girl extraordinaire, for the winning sand castle - it was a tough one to call!)  We highly recommend the Beach Club for any event or just to spend a great affordable day at a beautiful beach with amenities. 

The staff were amazing - so helpful and fun and really went the extra mile for our campers.  

On Wednesday the campers visited the Art of Giving in the International Bazaar and proprietor Janet Albury treated them to a fascinating talk on the history of Freeport.  Janet did a great job engaging the kids and they really learned a lot.  They also did more arts and crafts at the shelter and were able to spend some time socializing a young litter of adorable puppies.  

Thursday was the Garden of the Groves field trip - playtime on the playground, an interesting tour of the Garden, and as a special treat, a visit from a baby duckling!

Many thanks to everyone who assisted with the camp starting with Bev Dobinson and Michelle Lovatt, HSGB Board Members, who organized and ran the whole thing with great aplomb; they made it look so easy although we know it was not!  We also must thank Nesbitt Rentals for the discount on the tables and chairs, the Baptista family for the loan of a tent, Sunny Isles for the drinking water, Ol Freetown Farm, Janet Albury at the Art of Giving, Erika Gates and the Garden of the Groves (and Marilyn!), and the Junkanoo Beach Club.  Thanks also to the moms and grandmas who helped drive some of the days we were short on transportation.
