The 7th Coast Guard District, headquartered in Miami, and Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater immediately approved the medical evacuation, and an OPBAT helicopter flew to Governors Harbour, Eleuthera where the patient, accompanied by a nurse, and a doctor were flown to Odyssey Airport in Nassau. A medical team was standing by to transport the patient and the medical team by ambulance to Doctor's Hospital where he received emergency treatment. OPBAT is a combined Coast Guard, DEA and Government of The Bahamas partnership to combat drug smuggling to and from The Bahamas. In addition, OPBAT assets regularly assist with prosecuting human smuggling and search and rescue cases throughout the AOR. The U.S. Coast Guard maintains a persistent presence in and around The Bahamas. The Service is locally based, nationally deployed, and globally connected. Newer news items:
