Dear Editor, I am all about competition, having your opinion and CHANGE. So I wanted to give Branville McCartney his chance and hear about his CHANGE concept - who knew, he could be the next Obama. But just like a quick "Reality Celebrity" he shone for a few minutes and quickly disappointed his audience. It was not the dressing up in fatigues and trying to send Haitians home after a massive earthquake! It was not his tantrum with his learned senior Edison Key and former cabinet colleague. It was not even his RANT at his former leader the Prime Minister. But the "straw that broke the camel's back" for me were his comments on the marital rape law or his lack of care to CHANGE it. Here was Branville's chance, his opportunity to prove to me, and the 20,000 women voters in The Bahamas, to his wife, to his daughters to his mother - that he was the new leader of CHANGE for our protection. BUT NO - the supposed "AGENT OF CHANGE" will not be the one to lead our women into the first world as most developing countries have - they outlawed marital rape in the 1990s and 2000s. The lawyer and leader of the DNA, Branville McCartney, who has more than likely seen and heard the horror stories of my fellow sisters who have been beaten, sodomised or worse is not willing at this key opportunity to help us make this CHANGE. Ladies, according to the statistic this is our election, we are the power vote. There has only been one leader who has stood up for us and has attempted to give us equal rights and has tried to change the Martial Rape Law. It is that same leader who was the first to make Janet Bostwick the Speaker of the House, to make Dame Ivy Dumont the Minister of Education and the first female Governor General, and who has given us the most female candidates in this election. Margaret Thatcher said it best "If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman." My fellow Bahamian women lets remember who has the power to get it done, let us be our own Agents of Change - and let's vote the party who is simply the best for us. - Sarah Kirkby Newer news items:
