FREEPORT, Grand Bahama -- The 23rd Annual Conchman Triathlon (8.00am) and the 12th Ironkids (12.00pm) will be held on Taino Beach on 7th November,2009.
Entry forms are available from local schools or entries may be made at online at www.conchman.com. Lots of additional information is also available at this site.
The first Conchman Triathlons were held at Xanadu, a couple at Our Lucaya, but Taino Beach has been the location to be on the first Saturday in November for the past 18 years!
The original idea was threefold: to offer an event that would encourage swimmers, cyclists and runners to crosstrain; to attract visitors to the Bahamas to participate; and to add variety to the sports calendar in Freeport.
The Conchman offers both individual and relay races - consisting of 800 meters swimming, 15 miles cycling and a 5k (3 mile) run. Relay teams may consist of 2 or 3 members. There are several different age groups and divisions. Trophies are unique, locally manufactured by Sidney Pratt (the Glassblower). All participants receive a finisher’s medal and T shirt.
The Ironkids race has 5 age groups ranging from 6 and under to 13 and over and consists of an individual race with a swim of 200 meters, a 3 mile ride and a ½ mile run. The race is open to all primary and secondary students (local and from off shore); there are no entry fees (courtesy of the sponsors Sun Alliance Insurance and Fred Smith) and all competitors receive a finishing medal and T shirt.
There are youth practices every Tuesday (swimming and running) and Saturdays (cycling) at 4pm to 5:30pm for all interested students under the supervision of coach Bert Bell.
Registration closes at 7pm on November 6th at the package pick-up and pre-race meeting at UNEXSO. There will be absolutely no late registrations. Organizers request that forms be returned earlier to local schools.
Race day sign-in and body marking is between 6 and 7:30am for the Conchman and between 10 – 11:30am for the Ironkids at Taino Beach. Many of the adult Conhman competitors enjoy helping with the Ironkids race and cheering the young athletes.
The Conchman starts promptly at 8am and the Ironkids at 12pm.
Be there, participate. If you have any questions please contact
