NASSAU, Bahamas -- Lyford Cay International School (LCIS) marked the beginning of its 50th anniversary celebrations with a Founders Day Assembly honoring their founder E.P.Taylor, on January 31, 2012.

“We have put a lot of work into the celebration of our 50th year,” said Stacey Bobo, Principal at LCIS. “It seemed fitting to start at the beginning with our founder E.P.Taylor. We wanted to learn as much about him as possible and we wanted to be sure that our students understood that Taylor really was a visionary and that we, as a school, are here because of him.”

E.P.Taylor, the original developer behind Lyford Cay, founded the Lyford Cay School in 1962 to provide a good education to the children of his staff. The school opened its doors with nine students and two teachers and today, 50 years later, has a student enrollment of 345 students with a faculty of more than 70.

The Founder’s Day service honored past alumni and brought the exciting story of E.P.Taylor’s life to everyone gathered.  "We learned as much as we could about E.P.Taylor, through contacts with his family members, friends and those who know him in the Lyford Cay Community. We read his biography by Richard Rohmer, interviewed people who knew him or worked for him and spoke to his family members,” said Mrs. Rebecca Massey, Development Coordinator who is responsible for the 50th Anniversary. 

NASSAU, Bahamas -- The Government of The Bahamas welcomed His Excellency Michel Joseph Martelly, President of the Republic of Haiti for high-level discussions on matters relating to trade, immigration issues and the redevelopment of that country since the 2010 devastating earthquake.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration the Hon Brent Symonette led the welcoming party at the Odyssey Airport, where President Martelly arrived with his delegation on a private aircraft on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 around 8 p.m.

President Martelly was taken away in a motorcade to meet with the Haitian community at the Church of God Auditorium, Joe Farrington Road. His visit also includes paying Courtesy Calls on His Excellency Sir Arthur Foulkes, Governor General, at Government House; the Rt Hon Hubert Ingraham, Prime Minister at the Cecil Wallace-Whitfield Centre; Mr Symonette at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Hon Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace, Minister of Tourism and Aviation, Bolam House, George Street; the Rt Hon Perry Christie, Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition at his residence on West Bay Street and members of the business community led by the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce.

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama -- There’s nothing like a ‘Strong Back’ or a ‘Sands’ especially when former world number one Australian professional tennis player Lleyton Hewitt wear’s your brand’s t-shirt at an International press conference.

“It’s the best thing! We were overwhelmed when we were sent pictures of Hewitt wearing our shirts on tour“ said CEO James ‘Jimmy’ Sands. “It’s a huge honour to have such an acclaimed athlete sporting our paraphernalia and giving us such great international exposure for our products. Plus, he also promoted our country to millions of viewers, that’s just an extra bonus!”

 they are both beers.  And beers of choice for Hewitt, who lives in the paradise where the brews are concocted.”

Hewitt, who was interviewed during the Australian Open, sported the Bahamian Brewery and Beverage companies ‘man in the boat’ logo for on court interviews and the company’s Strong Back t-shirt for pressroom coverage. Hewitt suffered a terrible toe injury last year and is making a comeback. Hewitt will be representing Australia in the upcoming Davis Cup this month. He has a residence in The Bahamas and loves the islands and now we know his Sands Beer.

On Saturday, February 25th, don't miss A Night of Love starring the popular Apple Elliott Band at the Foster B. Pestaina Centre.  You'll be humming along and tapping your feet to their great variety of musical selections!  HSGB volunteers will be manning the bar and selling tickets for some great raffle prizes.
